ALLOY WHEEL ADVICE

Alloy Wheel Finishes:
Alloy wheels tend to come in 4 main finishes or coatings. Below we have listed details on each type of finish.

Painted:
Painted finishes are the most commonly used when coating alloy wheels. Most original equipment alloy wheels are of a painted finish.
Painted finishes usually consist of 3 layers. The 1st layer being a primer coat to cover the bare base metal of the alloy. The primmer also provide a perfect layer for the 2nd layer of base or colour coat to be painted on to. The whole wheel is then painted with a clear coat or clear lacquer, this is the 3rd layer.
With the 3 layers combined this provides a tough finish to alloy wheels to be used all year through all weathers and conditions. Obviously alloy wheels with this finish still need to be cared for but can withstand longed periods between cleaning than some of the other finishes below.
Painted alloy wheels can come in literally any colour. The main colours currently available are the normal silver finish, white, black, gold and anthracite grey.
Obviously each wheel manufacturer has different variations of paint finishes. These are normally 2 or 3 optional finishes on each wheel model. Below are a few examples of manufacturers finishes.

Borbet and Ronal’s Kristal Silver is a standard metallic silver finish, very similar to original equipment finishes.

Borbet CA
Standard Silver Metalic Finish.

Borbet’s Hyper Silver is a smooth silver finish with no metallic flakes within the paint.

Borbet M
Hyper Silver

Borbet's new polished face wheels with black and graphite backing. Faces are diamond cut and laquered and inside the wheel is painted with either black or graphite.

Borbet XL Black          Borbet XL Graphite
Polished face with black and grphite insides.

BK Racing’s High Power Black is a darker silver finish with the inside of the rim and spokes painted in a very dark grey/ black.
Hyper Silver is a finish used by many manufacturers as again is a smooth silver finish similar to the Ronal Sterling Silver and the Borbet Décor Silver.

There are many other finishes including various greys known as either Titanium or Gunmetal.

Other variations are wheels that feature 2 types of finish. This is normally in the form of a painted part and another finish. This is normally where a wheel has a painted centre and polished or diamond cut outer rim but this will be explained in the next finish.

Stainless Steel:
Stainless Steel is a new idea being uses for outerlip on Alloy Wheels. Companies are now using Stainless Steel as it is stronger than Alloy. This means that the vulnerable outer lip is tougher and can with stand more abuse than normal alloy. The Stainless Steel also keeps its shine longer and can also be cleaned easier. Below is an example of wheels that use Stainless Steel components.

Chrome:
We do not offer any chrome wheels due to warranty issues with road use in the UK.
