Commercial Vehicle Tyres:
If your not driving a commercial vehicle, minibus or small van then you have no need to worry about reading this section. If however you do drive one of the above vehicles and are considering new tyres or upgrading to an aftermarket alloy wheel and tyre package, then read on. There are two real conciderations to take into account , we have explained in detail below about the importaces and differences of the tyres.

Weight
The most important difference between your commercial tyres and those for you car is their weight carrying capacity. A typical car tyre can accept a maximum load of 400-600 Kg while a 'light commercial' tyre can support over 800 Kg - a big difference! This is an important difference too - your commercial vehicle is likely to have a 'gross vehicle weight' of somewhere between 2600 and 3800 Kg. If we just divide these figures by the four tyres this means a load on each tyre of between 650 and 9650Kg - easily enough to burst a car tyre! For just this reason virtually all tyres have their maximum load at maximum pressure information displayed on the tyre sidewall.

Pressure
Car tyres are usually made from just two 'plies' whereas commercial tyres are made with six or eight. This difference in construction also limits tyre pressures, car tyres are limited to a maximum of around 40 psi or less whereas van sized commercial tyres can safely inflate to around 65 psi.
